The Hôtel des Invalides The Hôtel des Invalides, located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, is a majestic architectural complex built in the 17th century under Louis XIV. Originally designed as a hospice and retirement home for disabled or elderly soldiers, it now houses several prestigious institutions, including the Army Museum, the Museum of Relief Maps, and the Museum of the Liberation.	The site is best known for its Dome, a masterpiece of French classical architecture that has housed the tomb of Napoleon I since 1840. A symbol of France's military and historical grandeur, Les Invalides is also a place of remembrance where other great figures of national history rest—such as Vauban and Turenne—and where the heart of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban is interred. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Banks of the Seine, the Hôtel des Invalides combines heritage, history, and art, and remains one of the capital's most visited sites.
