The Château de Chantilly, located about 50 km north of Paris, is one of the treasures of French heritage. Nestled in the heart of a vast 7,800-hectare estate, it was originally built in the Middle Ages, but has undergone several transformations over the centuries. The Château as we see it today is the result of work undertaken by the Duke of Aumale, son of Louis-Philippe, in the 19th century. Passionate about art and history, he gathered an exceptional collection of paintings, books and rare manuscripts. The Château Library houses the famous Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, one of the most beautiful illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages.
| The Musée Condé, which is part of the Château, is renowned for its art collections, including works by Raphael, Ingres and Poussin, and is considered the second largest museum in France for old master paintings after the Louvre. The magnificent gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre, add to the charm of the estate, with their ponds, flowerbeds and fountains. The Château is also famous for its Great Stables, which house the Horse Museum, celebrating equestrian art. The Château de Chantilly, with its beauty and history, is a must-see in French culture. |
